It is hereby announced that the client NEOM has exercised the termination for convenience regarding the construction in TROJENA (Saudi Arabia) of a system of three dams designed to feed a freshwater lake, as well as the architectural structure “The Bow”.
Eversendai Corporation Bhd said it has received a termination notice from NEOM Company for its TROJENA Ski Village structural steel contract in Saudi Arabia, effective March 26, citing geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Eversendai said in a statement that it is preparing documentation to substantiate project progress and will submit commercial claims, including compensation for termination and related demobilisation costs.
The artificial lake is a central component of the TROJENA masterplan, a mountain destination within the NEOM megaproject located at altitudes up to 2,600m above sea level . Designed to be a 2.8km long freshwater body, the lake serves as the heart of TROJENA, acting as a public space for wellbeing, entertainment, and a global hub for water sports.
Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a major exporter of green hydrogen as the world seeks cleaner fuels for heavy industry, shipping, and power generation. At the heart of this effort is the NEOM Green Hydrogen Co., a joint venture building what is expected to become one of the world’s largest green hydrogen production facilities in NEOM, along the Kingdom’s Red Sea coast.
Diriyah Gate Development Authority achieved a milestone in its Gyratory Tunnel Extension project by setting a new record for concrete pouring. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the infrastructure surrounding the historic Diriyah area, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Saudi Arabia. The successful pour of 1,600 cubic metres of concrete in a single stretch underscores the project’s ambitious scale and the authority’s commitment to modern engineering standards.
The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has launched a new initiative aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs) employing 20 or more workers, urging them to regularise their workers’ housing conditions. Hyundai Engineering & Construction said a tunnel construction contract in NEOM awarded to a consortium led by the South Korean builder and Samsung C&T has been terminated, according to a regulatory filing. According to Hyundai E&C, the main reason for the cancellation was “a request for contract termination due to the client’s project restructuring.”
One of the world’s largest producers of natural gas is hoping to turn some of it into future-friendly protein for humans and animals. The Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG), partly owned by the Saudi government, has entered into a joint venture with Danish biotech firm Unibio to build a fermentation facility to turn gases into sustainable proteins.
Preliminary estimates suggest that several global shipping lines could reroute part of their operations to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea ports, potentially adding 250,000 containers and 70,000 vehicles per month, according to Rayan Qutub, head of the Logistics Council at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce, in an interview with Al-Eqtisadiah.
On March 13, Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced that the contract for the tunnel project, which was awarded in June 2022 by Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Company, had been terminated. Hyundai Engineering & Construction stated that it received the official termination notice from NEOM Company the previous day. The primary reason cited for the termination was “a request for contract termination due to a reorganization of the client’s business,” according to the company.
In a major reset, Saudi Arabia is quietly shrinking its desert city of the future. NEOM and its signature linear city THE LINE are being redesigned as a much smaller project built around data centers instead of a 170 kilometer strip of housing.
