NEOM Blockchain Technologies Company has developed a cryptocurrency called "NEOM Coin" which will be listed on the BitMart cryptocurrency exchange on January 6, 2022. The company takes its inspiration from the word "neom," meaning "new future" but has no connection to the Saudi NEOM. NEOM Blockchain Technologies can be used to provide access to financial services to billions of people around the world, including people in third world countries who do not have access to traditional banking services.

The Spanish Super Cup will be sponsored by NEOM and The Red Sea Development Company, according to the Kingdom’s Ministry of Sport, which confirmed the sponsorship on Wednesday. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, the La Liga champions and runners-up, and Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, the Copa del Rey winners and runners-up, are the four clubs competing in the tournament.

Two years after it was hosted in Jeddah, the Super Cup is returning to Saudi Arabia, this time in the capital city of Riyadh. The semi-final match between Real Madrid and Barcelona will take place next month, marking the first time “El Clasico” will be played in the Kingdom. Real Madrid fans will be hoping for a repeat of last October’s 2-1 triumph over Barcelona at the Camp Nou, which they won last year.

NEOM has been named as the main partner of the Spanish Super Cup, while the Red Sea Development Company will be the main tournament sponsor. The event, which is being held in Saudi Arabia for the second time, runs from Jan. 12 to 16.  The announcements were made on Wednesday by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Sport. The four teams competing in the event are Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, respectively La Liga champions and runners-up, and Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, respectively the winners and runners-up of the Copa del Rey.

The calendar for season two of Extreme E has been announced, with the first race set to take place in the Saudi city of NEOM in February.  The inaugural season of the electric SUV series began in the Kingdom in April, in the desert dunes of AlUla, before heading to four other venues around the world.

Situated where three continents meet, NEOM will operate as an independent economic zone that connects Asian, European and African markets.  The NEOM master plan also includes the 170km revolution in urban living called THE LINE.  Another piece of the NEOM jigsaw, OXAGON, was unveiled last month. The octagonal floating structure will house smart, clean factories of the future, and will begin welcoming manufacturers from seven industries to work there from 2022.

A deal has been recently struck between Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion new super city and urban air mobility pioneer Volocopter to create the world’s first ever public air taxi and logistic services.

NEOM signed an initial agreement on Thursday to build and trial the ‘Cognitive City’ quantum security system, a statement by the company revealed.  NEOM has teamed up with Arqit Quantum, known as Arqit, to develop new software capable of defending cognitive cities against cyber attacks.  This trial will see the two organisations develop new software capable of defending cognitive cities against cyber-attacks from the most advanced computers to emerge in coming years.  

Pending a successful trial in NEOM during the first half of 2022, the system could be exported to other cognitive cities around the world, offering billions of users a highly secure means to authenticate, identify and secure all forms of devices while fully guaranteeing their privacy.

As Saudi Arabia diversifies from an oil-based economy, the kingdom is pinning a significant portion of its hopes of becoming a major media industry hub on NEOM, a futuristic megacity in-the-making.  It is where the $100 million seventh century actioner “Desert Warrior,” featuring an all-star international cast led by “Captain America” star Anthony Mackie, is currently shooting.

The utopian postmodern desert city being built to be powered solely by renewable energy and envisioned to be a linear city connected by a high-speed train, with no cars, no roads, no pollution and also to be the new frontier in terms of digital lifestyle, will have “a semi-autonomous jurisdiction in the kingdom,” says Borg, in an effort to make it more attractive not just to film and TV shoots but also to media and entertainment companies looking for a regional base.
